Vox Virorum , a
male quartet
Vox Virorum was
started back in 1968 and has been active ever since.
The group started
as a quartet, but through the years the numbers of singers
have varied.
Today Vox Virorum
consists of nine singers, included a female 1. tenor.
Vox Virorum has
participated on a number of programmes on nationwide
television, (NRK and TV2), as well as on various radio
programmes.
The main activity
during a season is concerting in different locations, like
church concerts and entertaining in congresses, meetings and
other arrangements.
The members of the
group have all long experience from other choirs, and several
are conductors themselves.
The group’s
repertoire consists of classical pieces for male choir
classical music, Norwegian Folk Songs, Italian madrigals, pop
music and Negro Spirituals
Our local composer
Johan H. Grimstad has composed and arranged especially for the
group, and the group has recorded an album with his songs,
called “Høgt frå den himmelske klåra” (High
up from the clear Heaven), a mixture of religious songs and
secular ones.
Vox Virorum has
also published a second album, “Frå Skolma til
Sicilia”, songs from our repertoire through the
years, with music composed by a wide range of composers, such
as Orlando di Lasso, Anton Dvorãk, C.M.Bellmann, Edvard Grieg
and more.
